Multiplying Biblical Leaders in Africa—and beyond
Langham Partnership walks with the global church in 130+ countries to biblically equip leaders and pastors to multiply disciples who extend the Gospel into their communities. We work in places where God’s people are under pressure, in poverty, and yet the church is full of potential.
How we Work
Langham Partnership is committed to training and resourcing indigenous leaders across Africa—home to more Christians than any other continent in the world. Our three-pronged approach includes funding PhD studies for emerging theological leaders (Langham Scholars), training pastors and lay leaders to faithfully preach Scripture (Langham Preaching), and developing and distributing much-needed biblical literature (Langham Literature).
Our Programs in Africa
Langham Scholars – Equipping Transformational Leaders
Langham scholarships and mentors emerging theological leaders (called Langham Scholars) through their PhD studies in Bible and theology. These scholars return home equipped to launch ministries, start and plant churches, teach in seminaries, and multiply future ministry leaders.
Currently there are 177 Langham Scholars in 28 countries across Africa.
Langham Preaching – Training Grassroots Pastors
When invited, Langham works with local leaders and volunteers to train pastors and lay leaders in expository preaching of God’s Word. Pastors return to their communities and form preaching clubs with nearby pastors for ongoing fellowship and training—and some become local facilitators, so the work moves forward under local leadership.
Langham is currently training pastors in 27 countries across Africa, where the work is led by more than 200 local facilitators. Thousands of pastors receive training each year—and there are more than 340 preaching clubs.
Langham Literature – Developing Relevant Biblical Books
Langham supports local writers and publishers in creating relevant books for local pastors and leaders. We distribute biblical books and resources to schools, churches and seminary libraries, and we foster the creation of major regional book projects, such as one volume Bible commentaries like the Africa Bible Commentary.
Langham has distributed nearly 1 million books to churches, seminaries, and publishers across Africa. We have supported 9 indigenous publishers and developed 85 biblical books—written by African scholars for Africans— to open God’s Word to His people in the region.
